In 1990, Certrec announced its RECALL® Regulatory Research
Product. Certrec personnel, with their strong utility licensing
backgrounds, recognized that licensing and regulatory compliance
had extreme needs for documentation and information retrieval.
The original licensing process combined with the post-TMI years
of activities resulted in significant regulatory information.
The ability to quickly and thoroughly research the NRC's regulations
and guidance did not exist. To address this need, Certrec developed
the RECALL® Regulatory Research Product, which, for the first
time, allowed a real time, full text, electronic search of NRC's
regulations and generic information. Certrec gained significant
experience and expertise in document storage, conversion, Optical
Character Recognition (OCR), text search, and computer management
through this major project. The RECALL® Regulatory Research
Product was used by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Pacific
Northwest Laboratories as their principal means of regulatory
research for their initial writing of the Standard Review Plan
for the Advanced Reactors.
RECALL® Web, a natural extension of the RECALL®
Regulatory Research Product, was introduced in 1998 to address
expanding Internet technology. Developed and maintained on Certrec's
secure Internet web servers, RECALL® Web has
grown from diskettes to gigabytes of research data. In addition
to NRC's generic information and regulations, RECALL®
Web contains all federal regulations, the daily Federal Register
and, the Department of Energy Orders. RECALL®
Web enjoys both national and international customers and is
the most comprehensive regulatory research site available. It
employs both document lookup by title and the fastest, most
powerful real time full text search capability available.
