Certrec Supports NuScale Power with Revision 4 Submittal of its Design Certification Application

NuScale’s DCA Revision 4 submitted on time with the help of Certrec

Certrec, a leading regulatory compliance solution provider, is pleased to announce its participation in the electronic processing and preparation of Revision 4 of the small modular reactor Design Certification Application (DCA) for NuScale Power’s submission to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on January 17, 2020.


“The submittal of NuScale Revision 4 of the Design Certification Application to the U.S. NRC provides the version that will be part of the Proposed Rule for our design certification, which could be issued this spring,” said Tom Bergman, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at NuScale Power. “This is a significant milestone and enables the NRC to maintain or finish their final review ahead of the certification schedule.”


Certrec’s TAKTIX® web-based project collaboration tool, technical editing assistance, and document processing services were used to manage and control the electronic processing of all Requests for Additional Information (RAIs) from the NRC and changes to the DCA. All responses to RAIs and changes to the DCA were initiated, approved, and processed electronically online.


With Revision 3 submitted in August of 2019, this was a quick turnaround for Revision 4. The tools and processes we have built over the years with NuScale allow us to work efficiently and make great strides toward completing a DCA, commented Brett McLain, Certrec’s Electronic Documents Manager.


A solid relationship has been forged between NuScale and Certrec, as has a highly efficient process for managing the development of the DCA. Using Certrec’s TAKTIX® platform, teams of people in different parts of the country have been able to bypass typical logistical challenges of processing time-sensitive RAIs and changes to the DCA.
