March Poll Insights
Last month, we asked our audience: Which NERC standard addresses frequency response? Overall, the most voted answer was BAL-003, with 53 percent of the vote. In second place, MOD-026 received 26 percent of the vote. Tied for last place were PRC-005 and FAC-008, with both receiving 11 percent.
The correct answer is BAL-003. This standard requires each balancing authority to maintain an adequate Frequency Response Obligation and to set its frequency bias properly so that it automatically adjusts generation in response to frequency deviations. This helps keep the grid stable and prevents widespread outages.
