Explaining NERC: The NUC Standards

Last month, we asked our audience: Which NERC standard manages contingency reserves? Overall, the most voted answer was PRC-004, with 55 percent of the vote. In second place, BAL-002 received 45 percent of the vote. Tied for last place were FAC-003 and MOD-025, with both receiving five percent.
The correct answer is BAL-002. This standard establishes requirements for maintaining and restoring contingency reserves after a reportable balancing contingency event. The standard is part of NERC’s reliability framework for maintaining bulk power system stability across North America.
