NuScale’s DCA Revision 5 was submitted on time with the help of Certrec.
FORT WORTH, Texas September 14, 2020
Certrec, a leading regulatory compliance solution provider, is pleased to announce its participation in the electronic processing and preparation of Revision 5 of NuScale Power’s small modular reactor Design Certification Application (DCA) submission to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on July 30, 2020. Revision 5 is the version of the DCA that will be used in the design certification rulemaking.
All work on Revision 5 was initiated, approved, and processed electronically using Certrec’s TAKTIX® web-based project management tool. Technical editing assistance and document processing services were also used in conjunction with Taktix to manage and control the electronic processing of all changes to the DCA and Requests for Additional Information (RAIs) from the NRC.
“Certrec has been central to our success, innovation, and flexibility, as we have worked through the licensing cycle of the design certification. We are grateful to the team at Certrec for their contributions to our effort to achieve certification approval for our small modular reactor (SMR) design” said Tom Bergman, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at NuScale Power.
“This was the final revision of a large and complex document that has high importance in the nuclear industry. We worked closely with NuScale throughout the entire licensing cycle of the DCA from the highly charged activity in Revision 0 through the application of finishing touches in Revision 5,” commented Brett McLain, Electronic Documents Manager. “I couldn’t be more proud of our team and all of their hard work to help accomplish this major milestone.”
A solid relationship has been forged between NuScale and Certrec, as has a highly efficient process for managing the development of the DCA. Using Certrec’s TAKTIX® platform, teams of people in different parts of the country were able to bypass the typical logistical challenges of processing time-sensitive RAIs and changes to the DCA with ease.
“Certrec’s partnership with NuScale has been and continues to be exhilarating,” said Michelle Thomas, Certrec’s Executive Director of Operations. “Innovative, technology-based problem solving is at the core of both companies and has been a large contributor to the success of the project. We are very proud to have such a great partnership with the NuScale team and look forward to years of collaborations.”
Certrec’s large-document processing services are in demand. The company currently is involved in several DCA/DCD/COLA projects as well as supporting the ongoing maintenance of several plant UFSARs.
