The quality of maintenance, upgrades, and remote data analysis plays a crucial role in preserving the performance of wind turbines as they age. According to a report by the U.S. Department of Energy, windmill maintenance accounts for 10 to 20 percent of the total windmill operation costs.
Last month we asked our audience: what do you think is the most efficient way to reduce maintenance costs in wind turbine operations and maintenance? Overall, 55 percent voted utilizing predictive analytics while 34 percent voted upgraded electrical components, and 11 percent voted using drones for inspections. Increased employee training was the least voted answer at zero percent.
